vietanm why he send ground troops
I beleive kennedy increased the troop numbers due to idealism. It could not be down to ignorance because he sent a U.S official on a fact-finding mission to find out information on AFRV. he said "U.S heliciopters were needed and AFRV needed more training. AFRV were almost loosing every battle and neeeded a lot of training.
kennedy was not an experienced president as he was very young, in my opinion he done the right thing by increasing numbers in vietnam. he was quite cleaver in doing so- a lot of media attention was focused on kennedy and vietnam so he could not send ground troops in straight away.
also, kennedy and U.S were anti communist and like N.korea, they would try and contain the communist movement. he could do this by sending support such as aid to vietnam to keep them on the anti-communist side, instead he send ground troops to support the south vietnamese army.

Re: vietanm why he send ground troops
Ithink that kennedy sent troops into vietnam because idealism and not ignorance. If it was due to ignorance Kennedy would have just sent in troops before he had researched the current state of the country, but instead decided to sent his vice president Johnson's team in first to gather infoimation, this shows he did not underestimate the strength of his opposition. we also know that kennedy was cautious because he only gave permission for air support to be used, not ground forces, this suggests that he was not ignorant because he knew that ground forces would stand little chance, just like the poorly trained AFRV. lastly we know kennedy was an outspoken communist, so he would be inclined to invade vietnam to contain the communist threat from the north, this supports the theory that he invaded for idealistic reasons, not ignorance.
